 Hockey Alberta has refocused its coaching development plan to invest in coaches by offering educational opportunities.  The following courses could be required depending on the division you are coaching.

 Coaching requirements
 The Edson Minor Hockey Association follows Hockey Alberta’s coaching requirements
  
 U7 teams require:
  - TWO team officials to successfully complete Coach 1
- ALL team officials to complete Respect in Sport - Activity Leader
- One team official per Ten players to complete the Hockey Canada Safety Program. The requirement for the ten to one ratio must be for every ice session so it is suggested to have several people complete Hockey Canada Safety Program.  Note that these team safety people can be Coaches, Assistant Coaches, Team Manager or Parents.
U9 teams require:
  - The Head Coach to successfully complete Coach 1
- ALL team officials to complete Respect in Sport - Activity Leader
- One team official to complete the Hockey Canada Safety Program. A team Safety person must attend all games so it is suggested to have several people complete Hockey Canada Safety Program.  Note that these team Safety people can be Coaches, Assistant Coaches, Team Manager or Parents.
 U11 to U18 teams require:
  - The Head Coach to successfully complete Coach 2
- The Head Coach to successfully complete Checking Skills
- ALL team officials to complete Respect in Sport - Activity Leader
- One team official to complete the Hockey Canada Safety Program. A team Safety person must attend all games so it is suggested to have several people complete Hockey Canada Safety Program.  Note that these team Safety people can be Coaches, Assistant Coaches, Team Manager or Parents.
- Note that in the case where a team is considered AA, the coach must also have Development 1
